American Tax Stamp

Very Rare American tax stamp of the 1 Shilling denomination.

There are only approximately 20 extant examples of this stamp.

This stamp is on period paper with the notation of Quebec, proving its use in America.

From Catalog III

The thing itself: an embossed revenue stamp of the one-shilling denomination, one of approximately twenty examples known. The Act required these to be impressed on the paper of colonial documents; almost none were ever used, because almost no colonist would touch them. Scarcer than any Franklin imprint in the collection.
