
The Life of Dr. Benjamin Franklin
The rare Philadelphia printing of the second American edition of Franklin's famous autobiography. This edition of 197 pages is a variant of the copy described Ford's Franklin bibliography, and is Vaughan's translation from the French edition of 1791.
It includes Franklin's narrative extending to the year 1730 and Dr. Henry Stueber's continuation. The Preface includes a letter from Richard Price, and the "Extracts from the last will and testament are found at the end of the text. The profile frontispiece was engraved by Thackara and Vallance.
Rare, with only twenty copies listed in ESTC.

- 197, [1, blank], [2]pp. plus engraved portrait frontispiece. Bound in period-style full leather, gilt-ruled raised spine bands, morocco spine label. A very faint and old dampstain to the top gutter which runs through the text, not affecting any text, a very old repair to the last leaf, else very good.
