"Anthony Benezet, the well known Quaker schoolmaster in Philadelphia, assembled the collection during the spring of 1760 in a lot of 500 copies for distribution to those of a religious disposition `in ye back Parts of Maryland, Virginia & N. Carolina . and Connecticut'" (Miller 730).

Gift inscription at the head of title-page: Anth'y Benezet to Joseph White." Anthony Benezet was a Philadelphia abolitionist and educator. White was a Quaker minister in Makefield, Bucks County. With the ownership signature of noted Chicago lawyer Frank J. Loesch.

Benezet's extract from the English mystic, printed for the Quaker schools. Benezet taught free Black children, converted Rush to the antislavery cause, and in time converted Franklin.
