(8vo) Wansey was "by trade a clothier, but retired from business in middle life and devoted his leisure to travel, to literature, and to antiquarian research" (Dict. nat. biog., 20:748).
On pages 138-139, 142-143 of the Journal, Wansey makes observations on the yellow fever epidemic which afflicted Philadelphia the previous summer; and inserts "A brief account of the yellow fever which prevailed in Philadelphia in the year 1793" from Poulson's town and country almanac for 1795 (pp. 143-153).
Pages 138-153 give Wansey's account of the previous summer's epidemic, drawn from his Philadelphia conversations and supplemented by material from Poulson's Almanac. This is the epidemic as social memory: how Philadelphians narrated it to an outsider in 1794, what they chose to emphasize, what they were still trying to understand. The second issue is distinguished by the plate of Washington with eyelash, per Howes.
